What is a Construction Volunteer Orientation?
Asking our volunteers to attend a brief, 1-hour orientation helps ensure all of our volunteers are on the same page, increasing confidence, comfortability, and preparedness, leading to a more productive experience for everyone involved.
During the orientation, you will learn more about our mission, the purpose behind this work, and how you support that mission. We will go over safety protocols, what to expect on an Evergreen Habitat Build Site, and our expectations of you as a volunteer.
This virtual orientation helps prepare you for your build day so our construction leaders can focus on teaching and pairing volunteers with tasks for the day.
Who should attend an orientation?
Anyone interested in volunteering on an Evergreen Habitat construction site as an individual must attend an orientation.
What if I am part of a group? This does not apply to groups who schedule a Group Build Day with us. Any individuals who would like to volunteer outside of their scheduled Group Build Day must attend an orientation.
What if I attended an orientation in one of the Clark County Habitat Stores? Thank you for volunteering in one of our stores! This orientation contains information specific to our construction site, so we will need you to complete this orientation as well.
What if I have volunteered on one of Evergreen Habitat's construction projects in the past? That's great! Thank you so much for your previous volunteerism with us. We do still need to ask that you attend an orientation if you have not already.
Where is the orientation?
Orientation will take place on Zoom - you will be sent a link to join the zoom meeting the morning of your scheduled orientation shift. Please ensure the email address associated with your volunteer account is up to date so that you receive the link.
What if none of these times work for my schedule? If none of the posted orientation times work for you, please email volunteer@ehfh.org so we can send you the recorded orientation video.
What happens after orientation?
After you have attended orientation, we will send you a link to fill out a background check. The background check typically takes just a couple of days to process, but can take a couple of weeks for background checks to be processed.
We cannot accept volunteers with certain histories, including, but not limited to active charges or prior convictions related to theft, violence, or crimes of a sexual nature. Evergreen Habitat pays the cost of all background checks. We do not run a credit check.
What days can I volunteer on the construction site?
After you have attended orientation and passed the background check you will be able to sign up for as many or as few shifts as you would like. New volunteers are welcome to volunteer on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30am-3pm. We ask that construction volunteers commit to the entire build day.
No skills are needed. You must be 16 or older to volunteer on our construction site.
We are excited to welcome you out to site soon!
We strive for a culture where people of every race, ethnicity, nationality, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, size, and disability are welcomed, empowered, and celebrated. Please contact us about any accessibility requirements you have so we can work together to accommodate you.
