What is Construction Volunteer Orientation?
As we prepare to begin welcoming volunteers out to help build a home in Washougal, we must first ask that all volunteers, even those who have helped with previous builds, join us for a 1-hour, virtual orientation ahead of your first day on our new construction site. This does not apply to groups who schedule a Group Build Day with us.
During orientation, we will go over mission, programs, how your role as a volunteer contributes to that mission, what to expect on the construction site, and our expectations of volunteers.
Orientation will take place on Zoom - you will be sent a link to join the zoom meeting the morning of your scheduled orientation shift. Please ensure the email address associated with your volunteer account is up to date so that you receive the link. If none of the posted orientation times work for you, please email volunteer@ehfh.org so we can send you the recorded orientation video.
How do I sign up for an actual construction volunteer shift?
After you have attended orientation, we will send you a link to fill out a background check. We cannot accept volunteers with certain histories, including active charges or prior convictions related to theft, violence, or crimes of sexual nature (within the past 7 years). Habitat for Humanity pays the cost of all background checks.
It typically takes just a couple of days, but can take a couple of weeks for background checks to be processed. Once your background check has been approved, your volunteer profile will be updated so that you may begin signing up for shifts on the construction site. We will email letting you know your profile has been updated.
If you have completed a background check with us previously, you will not need to redo the background check, however you will still need to attend orientation.
After you have attended orientation and passed the background check you will be able to sign up for as many or as few shifts as you would like (no minimum shift requirement). Construction shifts take place on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30am-3pm and we ask that construction volunteers commit to the entire build day.
No skills are needed. You must be 16 or older to volunteer on our construction site.
We are excited to welcome you all out to site soon!
We strive for a culture where people of every race, ethnicity, nationality, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, size, and disability are welcomed, empowered, and celebrated. Please contact us about any accessibility requirements you have so we can work together to accommodate you.
