Our food box program was started during the pandemic, but continues as our Habitat Families still have a huge need for affordable groceries.
Our current need is for someone with a truck, SUV, mini van, or other large vehicle that can fit a lot of food inside.
Our pickup time at Trader Joe’s is between 10:15 and 10:30 am. You will head to the back of the building where their loading dock is. The best way to get there is to drive east down Mill Plain (away from the Habitat office) and turn right on 117th. You will then turn right into the parking lot (across from the Kaady Car Wash). You will immediately go left to the back of the building. You’ll see the dollar tree loading dock on the right, and then the Trader Joe’s one is just next to it. I’ve attached a map and a picture of what it looks like. It doesn’t look much like a loading dock. It looks more like a tall black fence with a door that should be open.
You can park right there in front of the fence. Please call to let them know you are picking up for Habitat for Humanity. The phone number is (360) 883-9000.
You just load all of it into your car. They may bring you out more things as it more than likely won’t all fit in one of their carts. We’ve had varying amounts of food, but it’s generally been a good amount. About 10 boxes and a couple of garbage bags of bread.
From there, you can head back to the Habitat Store to unload and begin sorting. I do want to note that the Store is not open on Mondays, so the parking lot will be blocked off. If you drive around the building to the Ellsworth entrance, the gate on that side of the building should be open. You will drive around to the main entrance of the store to the large garage door.
There will be other volunteers and staff there to help walk you through the process and to help with sorting.
After sorting, you will take any leftover food to FISH.
